i’ve known alex, the lead singer of edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros, since pre-school. that’s a long time. last night, they played at the mayan theater in downtown los angeles to a packed house. i had a photo pass and my camera with me, so i was able to take some pictures. i knew going in that i wanted to find a different way to shoot the show. i decided to use the crowd to my advantage. crouching down, standing on my tip-toes — anything to get some arms and heads in the way, anything to create a pocket here, a hole there. i felt like a kid again, dodging and weaving my way through, from the floor to the balcony, excited to see what kind of small openings would emerge amidst the sea of bodies. mw
