How do you achieve personal growth? This is a question that many people ask themselves. It’s an important question to answer too, because without achieving personal growth, we may not be living the life of our dreams. So how does one go about this process? There are plenty of books on the subject and also online resources which can help with this at your fingertips. But let’s take it from the top. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing with you some practical steps for achieving personal growth, so that you can live your life in alignment with values and passions.
What is personal growth all about anyway?
Personal growth is simply being able to look back on yourself in years past and know that you have changed for the better as a person. So how do you achieve this? By setting goals, deciding what you want out of life, knowing where you currently stand in terms of values and passions, and also surrounding yourself with people that support your vision for who you wish to become.
How is personal growth achieved?
Personal growth can be achieved in many different ways. Some people may feel they have achieved personal growth just by being able to dress better or pick up a new hobby. Or it could be something larger, like losing 100 pounds and becoming financially free through personal development. Personal growth can happen in lots of different ways and you will know when you have achieved it because of the way that you feel inside. You see, personal growth is all about aligning your actions with your values and your passions. By doing this you are achieving a greater sense of self-awareness. If you can achieve self-awareness, then it is much easier to start taking action and make changes because you are already more aware of what works for you and what doesn’t work for you.
Trust the process
It’s important not to rush the process. A lot of people expect the change to happen overnight, but it takes time, and if you rush into things you may not achieve the results that are truly possible for you. One thing I’ve learned is that if I focus on my long term vision for myself, I can hold that vision in my mind and work towards it on a daily basis. It’s only when I feel stuck and stagnant that other people and circumstances start to have an impact on me.
Give yourself time to figure things out. Give yourself some time to think things through. Some of your desires and goals may not be realistic and if they are not realistic, then you need to figure out what’s holding you back from achieving them.
Don’t expect everything to change all at once. Take small steps and work your way up to bigger goals.
Just remember, the more you do things in life (like exercise or eat right) the easier it will become for you. It’s like riding a bike, after a while, it becomes second nature to you because you are so used to doing it.
Start with a vision board
A vision board is a powerful tool for personal growth. It’s an easy and fun way to visualize what you want in your life and how you are going to get it. All you need for a vision board are some photos, magazines, or images that represent what you want in life, and then glue them onto a poster board as desired. You can create this at home or work on your whiteboard. Just remember to do a weekly review of your vision board and make adjustments as needed.
You can use the following categories:
- My values, passions, and goals
- Money & career
- Health & wellness
- Hobbies & interests
- Where I want to live (city, country)
- Relationships (friends, family)
- Personal qualities I aspire to have
Create a list of your goals and dreams
Use your vision board to create a list of your goals and dreams. This is a very important step and it helps you to come up with specific, concrete, goals and plan for your future success.
Use visualization techniques such as affirmations
Get in the habit of setting your intention by writing down three things that you want to happen in your life (including health, wealth, and relationships). Read these out loud every day. Remember to do this every day, even if it’s just for one minute. Recite them in front of the mirror for extra effectiveness.
Make an action plan
Make an action plan for the next day, week, month, or year to help you achieve those goals. You can create these action steps as needed. For example, if one of your goals is to lose weight then you may have an action step such as: write down 3 healthy meals, write down 5 exercises I could do at home, plan out a workout schedule for the week.
Make sure to hold yourself accountable and check-in with yourself every week or so to see how you are tracking. This will help you take the steps needed to achieve personal growth.
Learn to be positive
Accentuate the positive. This means pointing out what’s already working so that you can build on it and make it better. Don’t dwell on the negative because it will hold you back from success. Be grateful for what you have in life, even if right now things are not going exactly as planned. Look at the bright side of things by focusing on what is working and build from that.
Avoid pessimism, cynicism, and negative thoughts by replacing them with optimism, trust, and happiness. Even if the situation is not ideal right now, you can improve it or change things for the better. Choose to have a positive attitude and see what happens!
Step out of your comfort zone
Stretch yourself! Try doing something new, even if it seems small. Do this every day or week and you will learn to grow and change with whatever life throws at you. You can also explore a new interest, try a new exercise, or do anything else that falls outside of your comfort zone.
By stepping out of your comfort zone, you are expanding your knowledge and growing as a person. It allows you to build new skills and learn about yourself. If you’re scared of trying something new, just remember that it’s better than not trying at all! This is how we grow as people, by taking chances on things we haven’t done before or don’t know anything about.
Learn from mistakes and failure
Learn from your mistakes. Mistakes are an important part of life because they help you to grow and learn. You can’t always be a perfectionist, because mistakes are part of life. But don’t dwell on the negative. Instead, recognize what went right and what you can do better next time.
Forgive, but don’t forget
Forgive yourself for your mistakes, forgive others who have hurt you, and forgive those who are not making the right choices in life. Learn from it and move on to better things. Take responsibility for your actions as well.
Look for the lessons in everything
There is always a lesson to be learned from every situation. Try and find that lesson in whatever happens, and use it as an opportunity to look at what didn’t work out. Think about what you could have done differently so that you can plan things better for next time.
For instance, if you are trying to lose weight and you gain some, don’t think of it as being a failure. Instead, look at what caused this to happen (maybe you didn’t eat right or exercise) and make changes so that it doesn’t happen again. Also, you can think of it as learning what not to do so that you can avoid repeating the same mistakes.
Learn from others
We should look to those who have already achieved success for guidance. Learn from their example and how they achieved what they did in life. Find someone who inspires you to be better and reach for a similar goal. If they can do it, so can you!
Learn from the mistakes of others as well. Pay attention to the decisions lead to failure, then avoid making those same mistakes yourself.
Surround yourself with the right people
To grow personally, it is important to surround yourself with positive people. You can learn from everyone you meet, but filter out bad advice from people who aren’t in a place of growth themselves.
Being around people that are happy and successful will help you grow personally because they motivate you to do better!
Make some time for yourself
No one can give you all the pieces to your growth puzzle, sometimes you have to look within. There are things that only you have control over, so make sure to spend time focusing on and refining them. Check-in with yourself regularly: Are you spending enough time alone? Are you getting enough exercise? Are you eating healthy foods? What types of things are you doing to nurture your relationships with others?
Work on the key areas of your life first
It’s important to know what matters most in your life. Think about the areas you want to grow in and focus on them. Work on these key areas first and grow as much as possible in them before you branch out to other more difficult areas. This way, when things start happening in areas that may be tougher for you, you will feel more confident and successful because of what you have already accomplished in the key parts of your life.
This is a great exercise for everyone to do! The more successful personal growth moments we can create, the better. This allows to grow our confidence and fuel our path to success.
Keep a journal to track accomplishments
Keep track of your personal growth by making notes in your journal about what you have accomplished. This will keep you on track and help you stay motivated. Plus, you can look back at your journal entries later on and be even more proud of yourself!
Plan like a pro
If you want to achieve something, plan it out. Set a goal for something you want to accomplish, then take the time to write down the steps you will need to take to get there. Planning your life helps keep you on track and focused so that you can achieve your goals and dreams!
Make sure to focus on the things that make you feel good about yourself. Maybe it’s dressing up for an event, wearing makeup every day, meditating, or anything that you think makes you special. Love the things about yourself that make you stand out and take time to appreciate them every day.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
There is no shame in asking for assistance from someone else. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or even your boss, there is someone out there who can help you grow personally.
What is an example of personal growth?
Personal growth can come in many forms. One example that I can think of is working on improving my health and wellness, through eating better, exercising regularly, reducing my stress levels (through meditation), making positive changes in my life, and surrounding myself with positive people. Another example might be working on your emotional wellness, like seeking counseling, journaling about what’s going on in your life, having “me” time to yourself, or making positive changes that help you regulate your emotions (through things like yoga or reading an inspirational book).
Start your journey of personal growth
Personal growth can be achieved in many ways, but it’s important to think about what you want for yourself and make decisions accordingly. The first step to achieving personal growth is understanding what it is and how you want to go about attaining it. Once you have a better idea of your goals, the next steps will be easier! It may take some time and work on your part, but personal growth is possible with a change of perspective or lifestyle!
