What is a comfort zone?
A comfort zone is an area of personal space, physically and mentally. It’s that place in everyday life where you feel the most at ease and sometimes even bored. If someone has a comfortable daily routine then they are most likely living within their comfort zone.
Why it’s important to break out of our comfort zone
Throughout our lives, we’re always trapped in a comfort zone of sorts. It’s hard to get out and it’s easy to stay there, especially when you’re unhappy. We all know that feeling of dreading getting off the couch and pushing ourselves to do something we don’t want to do. Living in our comfort zone prevents us from being able to do the things we love, and it removes the threat of failure. If you’re not pushing yourself then how are you ever going to make progress?
When someone breaks out of their comfort zone, they end up doing things that they never thought possible. They feel like a new person because they feel fulfilled by new experiences.
What happens when people break out of their comfort zone
We all have our moments where we feel like we can conquer the world. These moments are powerful because we step out of our comfort zone and do something that we thought was never possible. In these moments, we triumph. These are the moments where people grow the most; they learn to take on challenges without worrying about failure. This leads to personal growth.
When you push yourself to do something that may be out of your comfort zone, you end up becoming a better person by overcoming your fears and pushing away all the negative aspects of failure. If we learn anything from our failures or stepping out of our comfort zones, it’s that we can achieve great things when we aren’t living in our comfort zones all the time. Failure is often the first (and most painful) step toward success. When we push past our comfort zone and take risks, we can achieve more.
Where does the magic come in?
When you push yourself to do something that’s out of your comfort zone, then this will seem like magic to you. You will notice that you have grown as a person in some way or another. It will be difficult at first, but soon it will seem like second nature. Take opportunities and risks. Try new things even if you’re afraid, and remember that anything worth doing, and which is necessary for growth, may not be easy. You will not be rewarded by staying inside your comfort zone. You will be rewarded by challenging yourself and stepping outside of your daily routine. The magic happens outside our comfort zone.
My personal experience with breaking out of the comfort zone
If you want to experience growth, then don’t live inside your comfort zone. This became very apparent to me when I was backpacking through South America a few months ago. For the past two years, I’ve been traveling around the world looking for adventure and growth, but it wasn’t until this trip that I realized how much my travels had changed me.
When I first set off, I was antsy and eager to see everything that South America had to offer, but as the trip went on my perspective started to change. The longer I traveled, the apparent it became how different of a person I had become since I left home. When you travel, you find that there are so many things outside of your comfort zone, and there is always something worth going out of your way for.
Why does it matter if you’re inside your comfort zone or not? Before I started traveling, my life was very boring. I would wake up, work, and go to bed. This was my life for years, and I never realized how much I had changed until I started traveling. Traveling is the best thing that has ever happened to me because it showed me a side of myself that I had never seen before. By being out of my comfort zone all the time, I became a more outgoing and adventurous person than I would have ever dreamed I could be. We only live once, so why not spend it living our dreams?
It’s okay to fail
You may occasionally fail, and that’s okay. You will make mistakes when trying to break out of your comfort zone. This is a fact of life. If you don’t reach for success, then you’re not going to grow as a person. You will live in a constant loop of doing what’s comfortable for you over and over again. When you do come across failure, don’t ever get discouraged. Failure is the first step toward learning from your mistakes and moving forward. Life is all about the journey and not the destination, so don’t ever be afraid to take risks and push yourself to grow as a person.
If you should fail at something, don’t worry about it. Failure is a natural part of life and there is nothing to be ashamed of. You will never grow if you always take the safe route in life. Embrace the fact that sometimes failure comes along with success. That’s how you know that you’re doing something worthwhile.
Seek support from good friends
One way to overcome the fear of failure and rejection is to ask for help. Whether it’s asking a friend for help or getting an outside perspective, you will be able to troubleshoot better and find more solutions. Your friends can also help by being there with you in times when you’re discouraged. They can provide advice, encouragement, and brainstorming on how to get out of your comfort zone. You may find that they have a different perspective than you do which will allow you to come up with new ideas about what could work for you.
You will find that by asking for help, others become invested in your life as well, making them more willing to share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings with you. When you have a support system, failure doesn’t seem as scary and rejection becomes less frequent. Now that I am back home from my trip, I always talk to close friends about how I can improve myself while getting new perspectives on what else is out there for me in the world.
Just go out of your comfort zone
It will be difficult at first when you decide to step outside your comfort zone, but you will get used to it eventually. You will enjoy seeing how far you can push yourself. The more you go out of your comfort zone, the better your life will be. You’re going to learn a lot about yourself and you’re going to feel as though you can do anything that you put your mind to. As long as you believe in yourself, then there is nothing that will hold you back.
How to step outside of your comfort zone
Deal with the fear:
Are you afraid to do something because you’re scared it will be too hard or take a lot of effort? Remind yourself that it’s more fun and rewarding.
Exercises to step outside of your comfort zone:
- Take risks like trying new things or meeting new people.
- Greet a stranger on the street and strike up a conversation.
- Go to a group event for a hobby that you’re passionate about.
- Do the thing that has been on your list for a long time.
- Force yourself to do something by setting a deadline for when you have to complete it.
- Say some affirmations
Try something new!
If you have some free time on weekends, try cooking something new or trying out a DIY project. You’ll learn many things about yourself that you never thought possible. Spending time outside of our comfort zone will help us be independent and self-sufficient adults who can interact with others effectively.
Find the right balance
You should get outside of your comfort zone once in a while. If you spend too much time outside of it, it may drain your energy. However, if you spend too much time inside of it then you will feel bored and wish that something exciting would happen. Find the middle path, and you will be able to get the most out of both worlds.
Have a positive attitude
Nothing is going to help you step out of your comfort zone more than having a positive attitude. You cannot let negative thoughts overwhelm you. If you start thinking that something is too hard, you may defeat yourself before you even start the task.
How to channel positivity
One of the easiest ways to cultivate a positive mindset is by setting a goal and staying busy. If you’re always doing something, then it’s going to be difficult for your negative thoughts to creep up and overwhelm you. Be task-oriented and strive to reach your goal.
Take care of yourself by exercising, eating healthy foods, sleeping well, and being around people who make you feel good about yourself. Exercising releases endorphins, and it keeps you from getting tired and stressed out. To sleep well, get in bed at the same time every night. I find that when I get a good night’s sleep I’m automatically in a better mood and have a more optimistic outlook. By eating healthy foods you will feel better physically, and you will feel better about yourself. You want to be around people who are positive because they will rub off on your attitude when you’re with them.
Avoid people who bring you down. If you’re around negative people, they can easily drag you down with them with their toxic speech.
Acknowledge that you can’t always be positive and that from time to time and that it’s normal to have doubts every once in a while. It’s okay to be vulnerable and admit that things have been difficult for you lately. However, take action to change your situation by setting goals that will help give you hope for the future.
The rewards are huge!
If you’re not currently confident in your ability to deal with tasks that require much effort, know that the rewards are huge. Once you step outside of your comfort zone and do something difficult, it will be easier for you to do it again next time because you have proven to yourself that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. You won’t regret stepping outside of your comfort zone because there are many benefits.
One of the main benefits is that stepping outside of one’s comfort zone is that it’s a healthy way to take risks. It’s worth taking the risks because they lead to greater personal growth and development as a person. A person who steps outside their comfort zone can learn more about themselves and what they are capable of.
Perhaps the biggest benefit is that a person who steps outside their comfort zone becomes more confident in life. They understand how, and when, to push themselves and know what they are truly capable of.
If you want to make your mark in this world, then you need to step outside of your comfort zone. The magic happens outside of your comfort zone, and I strongly believe that people should live with a healthy amount of fear, risk, and vulnerability so that they can make an impact on this world.
Steve Jobs said ” You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something—your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” I think this quote applies to living outside your comfort zone. When you do something out of your comfort zone, it may be scary at first because you don’t know what the outcome will be. But if you trust that things will work out for you in the end—that all your hard work will pay off and that all the struggles along the way were worth it—then you will be able to live outside your comfort zone and make a difference in this world.
Experience the magic for yourself
The magic happens outside of your comfort zone! Every challenge, obstacle, or difficult situation is an opportunity to grow as an individual and step out of your comfort zone. You can’t avoid suffering in life, but you can use these situations to your advantage by facing them with courage and perseverance. It will make you a stronger and more capable person in the end.
I hope that by reading this article and reflecting on my personal experience you are inspired to step outside of your comfort zone more often. It will pay off if you trust that things will work out for the best. You’ll be happier, more confident, and will make a bigger impact on the world.
